Working collaboratively with fire services to deliver value to the public purse
The National Fire Chiefs Council Procurement Hub focuses on the £518m spending per year on goods and services from third party suppliers across fire and rescue services, ensuring essential innovation and quality is delivered in the most commercially viable and sustainable way, protecting the front line.
In 2024, the Procurement Hub transitioned to BlueLight Commercial to form a strong, unified team focused on the operational resources available to front-line services.
Susannah Hancock, Chief Executive Officer of the NFCC is the Chief Sponsor of the Procurement Hub which consists of six Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Officer category sponsors and six category leads (Fleet, FM & Construction, ICT, Ops Equipment, PPE/Clothing and Professional Services).
To support the goals and diversity of the Fire and Rescue Service through the delivery of transparent and inclusive collaborative opportunities that provide optimum value to end users and the public purse.
1. Standardised requirements developing agreed standard specifications that are operationally driven rather than procurement-led.
2. Aggregated volumes across Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) that bring larger volumes to market typically get better deals. Where possible, i.e. non-fire specific goods and services, consider the wider purchasing power of other public sector organisations.
3. Collaboratively managed contracts and suppliers joined-up strategic engagement, supplier performance and contract management.
